Dee Dee
Our featured dog "older" dog this month is Dee Dee.  Dee Dee is a mystery as to what breed she has the most of.  She weighs 18 lbs, has long legs, is 4 years old but has grey on her muzzle and neck which makes people think she is older.  Dee Dee is VERY well potty trained.  She is the only dog her foster mom has who will let her know when she has to go out.  She would do fine in an apt or condo environment.  As she is quiet and non destructive.  Dee Dee is tickled to death whenever anyone pays attention to her and immediately rolls over for a belly rub.

If you would like a friend who requires no frills and is ready to move right into your home as if she has always been there, Dee Dee is your girl!! To see Dee Dee and get more info please visit her petfinder page http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19313249

Makos forever home

Just a line to let you know that Mako seems to be a happy dog—no more sad eyes.  She has not given in to letting me trim her nails.  After so many tries I gave up and took her to “Tracks” here in Batesville.  The lady there used a Dremel while I held her.  At that moment Mako was not happy but after we got out all was forgiven.  They look very nice now.  She loves to ride! (Except in a cage.)   She sits on the seat beside me and behaves very well.

I am grateful to the shelter in KY and to you for saving her.  She is a well mannered little girl.  I love her dearly as she must love me very much.  She is always at my side.  Well, not in bed.  She has her own bed in my bedroom and she sleeps there or sometimes under the bed.  She seems quite happy with that arrangement.

Gratefully,

Ruth

Siblings stay together

Carol,

Thought I would tell you about Daniel and Lucy, they are doing great, when we got them home, they both was so happy to get here, as they got out of the car, they were so happy, went to bathroom right away, they went into the house Lucy got up on couch wiping her face over the couch, played with the squeezes toys, Lucy really liked them, Daniel and Lucy played with there toys, explored the house, took them for walkes, they loved it, all over our property. Showed them inside of our r.v. set in there awhile, gave them some treats, Lucy snatched most of Daniels, but he didn't seem to mind. Whole evening to Lucy and Daniel, they stayed everywhere we are, like our shallows. Wanted to tell you how things went, they are so precious. Thank you so much for Daniel and lucy, one of God's gift to us.

Judy

Sophie 9 yr yorkie two teethSophie is a 9 year old Yorkie who only had two teeth. Her mom has had them pulled now and calls her "my little toothless wonder." She is a testimony for anyone who thinks an older dog won't be a fantastic companion pet.

"Happy Mother's Day to the mom of all those little furbabies looking for their furever homes from the mom of one of them who is an absolute treasure.  I have laughed so much since I brought her home.  She is the most affectionate, comical little ball of fur...  She is actually coming to John when he calls her now, although she is still a little leery of him and my sons.  She avoids the overactive granddaughter, but seems to know the autistic grandson won't hurt her.  Took her shopping at PetSmart the other day and people stopped to play with her.  She was pretty sociable.
Thanks for all you do for little souls like her."

Everytime he talks about Ralph he smiles! Ralph has a huge yard! Lots of toys! And most of all .. LOTS OF LOVE! He was a perfect match and follows my granddad everywhere! Some of our adopted dogs

Money Saving Amanda Humans may not be able to see the wings on "Saving Amanda's" back, but the 156 dogs adopted by Luvfurmutts Animal Shelter last year see them clearly.  She is the Angel who supplied them with a lot of food.

Next to medical bills, food is the biggest financial burden for a rescue.  A rescue spends a lot of money to feed the dogs they rescue.  Some stay in rescues for as long as two years.  When we take a dog it is for however long it takes to find the right home for it.

Amanda continuously supports Luvfurmutts dogs her coupon skills and donations.  She makes it possible for Luvfurmutts dogs to have better food than the rescue can afford for them.  Such as the donations she made last week of 400 cans and 85 bags of food.  Thank you Amanda!

Looking for a dog? HAVE YOU OVER LOOKED THE ADVANTAGES OF ADOPTING AN OLDER DOG? Older dogs have worked out their potty training, destructive behaviors and personality problems in their first homes. YET, everyone wants a puppy. Instead of seeing an older dog as a well trained asset for the family, most families want to start with a puppy. This often results in the puppy being dropped at a shelter when the family does not know how to deal with the terrible two's which most dogs go through just like children. If you have two to three years to constantly keep your eye on a puppy, train it, deal with the things it chews up, etc. then a puppy might be for you. But if you have a busy schedule and an active family why not consider an older dog who will move right in, be trained and fit right into your family?

ROCKY
Rocky is an 8 year old pug with about 80% hearing loss. His owner turned him in
saying they could no longer afford to care for him. After a dental, catching up his medical work and clearing up an ear infection we found Rocky was trained to be with a wheel chair bond person or a bed patient. He is not afraid of motorized chairs or any medical equipment his owner needs to function. We feel that there is a perfect home waiting for every dog. We just have to find it. And sure enough the manager of an 8 patient nursing home in Dayton, Oh was looking for a dog that would fit with all the residents. We took Rocky up, made sure the residents knew his needs and how to care for him and left him for a trial. Rocky was adopted by Bob Morley. Bob has wanted a dog, as he said, "forever" but did not think he would find one that would fit his living situation. Bob has gotten up with a smile on his face everyday since he has adopted Rocky. Bob is moving faster now as he rolls out to the main room to tell the other residents cute little things that Rocky does. When Bob leaves for therapy Rocky just moves on to another lap. They all love him and he loves them. The hearing loss is a blessing instead of a problem as they often get deliveries in the middle of the night and Rocky does not bark when the door bell rings.

ECHO
Echo's is a 9 year old cocker. His owner brought him in to put him to sleep. When the vet called us and asked if we would like him, we knew that most of our cockers have lived to be 18 and older. Echo is only half way through his life. So we jumped at the chance to find his new forever home. Echo's coat was so over grown he looked like a little sheep. He had thorns embedded through out his coat. Had to be very uncomfortable yet he was as sweet and happy to see us as he could be. After a grooming, dental and catching Echo up on his medical work we were surprised to find a very well mannered, well trained dog under all that hair. Echo spins for a treat, knows sit, down, loves to chase a ball and acts like a teenager. YET, everyone wants a puppy. We wondered would we ever find the right forever home for Echo? Would anyone even give him a chance to prove what a good dog he is.
Then we met the Pellegrin family. After years of wanting a dog they had finally decided that this was the time to add a new family member. But their new member had to get along with the entire family. Not ever having one and not knowing a lot about dogs they decided to keep realistic expectation while they looked for their forever friend. When they met Echo it was love at first site.

Carol,

We just wanted to tell you how thrilled we are to have Echo as part of our family. He is such a wonderful, wonderful dog! But you already knew that. Echo was very anxious his first week with us. He missed Judy and Paul so much he got an upset tummy. But bit by bit he learned to trust us and now he is starting to relax and bond with all of us. He seems to feel much better now. We all adore him. We love everything about him. We love how obedient he is, how he plays fetch, how well he walks on a leash, how he nudges our hand with his nose when he wants scratched, how he army crawls across the floor. We love his sweet, sweet temperament. We love his smile. And we especially love how he invites himself to curl up with us wherever we are. We feel that Echo is an angel from heaven. He is just the perfect little dog. And we just wanted to say thank you so much for rescuing him for us. If you ladies ever need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to ask. We believe in what you are doing and we would be honored to help in any way.

Sugar Baby
Sugar Baby is a 10 year old bichon. She is very happy in her new home with her new brother.

Sugar Baby

Dear Carol,
Just wanted to let you know how Sugar Baby is doing. She has been with us for about 3 weeks now and has turned into a different dog. We find it really funny that she will come over and drop to the ground, put her leg up and stare at us whenever she wants her belly rubbed, which happens to be all the time! She is really well housebroken and has not had any accidents. Sugar Baby and her new brother Truffles are getting along fine and the two of them love spending time sleeping together on the bed. She is a very big dancer. She follows me around everywhere, always looking for an extra treat! We are so happy to be able to have her here and no one would ever guess that she is 10 years old. Thank you so much for saving her!

Soleil
Soleil is an 8 year old bichon. Her mom loved her very much and had her since she was a puppy. She could no longer care for her due to illness. Soleil's new forever home had two bichons. One 10 and one 12 years old. One died and left the other one very loney. Roxy was so depressed that he suggested they get another dog. Not wanting to get a puppy or a high energy dog who would aggravate their older dog the family made a wise decision and went with Soleil.

Soleil on the left and Roxy

Hi Carol and Rae,

Well the first night was a success! Soleil slept in our bed with Roxy and everyone did great!

She has been on her first one mile walk this morning and did great! Roxy tried her best to keep uhep with Soleil so it was a wonderful walk for both dogs. She has not figured out the dogie door, but think she will catch on as she watches Roxy. Thanks for saving her for us and helping us bring her home.
