Senior Dogs for Senior Citizens

With our senior dogs for seniors program we not only hope to get misplaced pets in to loving homes but also provide happiness, love and companionship for some of the seniors in our community.

We are constantly amazed at how many animals are misplaced, dropped at shelters by family at the first sign of illness from the elderly owner of the dog.  Most often by children or grandchildren of the elderly person.  Families grow up and go away.  They often don't have time for their parents or grandparents by the time they take care of their intermediate family and follow today's hetic schedules.  Grandma's or Granpa's dog is often the only company he/she has.  It is tramatic for them and for their pet when they have to part.

We would like to help alleviate the stress put on both the pet and the elderly or disabled person when this happens by taking the pet before it is dropped at a shelter.  If you know someone who needs help with their pets temporarly or permentaly due to illness please have them contact us instead of dropping them at a shelter.  We can only take the smaller animals as we are wanting them for other seniors and they just can't handle the larger breeds.  We will do our best to help you find a rescue for the larger dogs also.   But we cannot take them.

We also offer free assistance to any senior whose doctor has told them that a pet will improve their life.  There is a federal law that no landlord can deny a senior or invalid a pet.  If you know of a senior whose life would be improved by the love of a dog please email or call us.  We will be glad to find the right pet, assist and follow up with it's placement and adjustment to the home and be prepared to take the pet back and care for it if needed. 

Right now we have two dogs who would do very well in a senior home.  Petunia is a 7 year old min dach mix and Sassy is a five year old chi mix.  They both just want their own person to love them.  They love to snuggle.  Sassy plays and does not mind children at all.  Petunia does not mind children but she does not want to play with them  She will tolerate them well.
